This Is Us.

Supporting rainbow communities to live violence free.

It is our vision that all rainbow people are free of family and sexual violence and all rainbow people who have experienced harm have access to safe supports. This is a journey that will require consciousness raising, education and advocacy for and within rainbow communities. RVPN has developed the This Is Us campaign as a step in Aotearoa’s journey to being violence free for rainbow peoples.

Campaign Background.

Rainbow people experience disproportionately high rates of violence, with one in two rainbow people experiencing domestic, family and intimate partner violence and abuse in their lifetime. At the same time, the majority of violence prevention education, awareness and services’ fail to acknowledge the existence of rainbow communities or adequately cater for them.

The creation of the LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day in 2020 was the first time in history that an awareness day was formed to highlight domestic, family and intimate partner violence and abuse occurring in rainbow communities. Held annually on May 28, LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day is the only day like it in the world. Using #SeenAndBelieved rainbow survivors from all over the world have shared their stories.

This Is Us campaign was born out of these efforts, and aims to activate rainbow communities, allies and people working in the violence prevention space to take action to support rainbow communities to live free from violence.
